Connecting to the Internet at Hesston College
CONNECTING YOUR COMPUTER, TABLET, OR SMARTPHONE:
HC_Sudents is the best wireless network for computers, tablets, and smartphones.
HC_Guest, should be reserved for guests/visitors of the college and those needing to get online temporarily to access this site and other resources necessary to connect to HC_Secure.
Manual network configuration info:
Security: WPA2 Enterprise (AES encryption)
Authentication: 802.1x PEAP
Phase 2 Authentication: MS-CHAPv2
Usermame/Identity: Your HC Student ID (usually 12345678 )
Password: Your HC Network ID password (same one used to access myHesston, Moodle, HC lab PC's)
Certificate: Automatic (*.Hesston.edu from wifi.hesston.edu)
TCP/IP: IPv4 using DHCP
NOTE: You will be assigned an address based on your role at HC. If you get a self-assigned 169.X.X.X address, DHCP failed.
You MUST use DHCP otherwise you will not be assigned a Lehigh IP address and therefore unable to connect to the Internet.
Other typical settings: Certificate verification/validation - disabled, machine authentication - disabled, automatic logon with windows account - disabled for students, enabled for employees.
CONNECTING YOUR VIDEO GAME SYSTEMS, TVs AND INTERNET STREAMING DEVICES:
HC_Device and HC_Students are wireless network especially designed for video game systems, smart TVs, and Internet streaming devices. Upon attempting to connect to you will be prompted to enter in a password.
The password for the HC_Device network is: hcgolarks
The password for the HC_Students network is: St@rt_H3re
Normally, your device will successfully connect to HC_Device after the password is entered in. However, occasionally a device will fail to connect to this network--if this occurs, the IT department will need to know your device’s MAC address to allow it to connect. This string of numbers is unique to every internet-enabled device, and is often easily found in the ‘Settings’ or ‘About’ window in the device’s software. For more information on finding your device’s MAC address, as well as to contact the IT department with your device’s MAC address, please click here.
Please note: We currently do not support Some VR headsets, Chromecasts, Wi-Fi Printers, Apple Airplay or Ethernet Routers on any Hesston College network. Wi-fi enable appliance are also not compatible with our wireless security such as: Smart light bulbs/Outlets, Security cameras, and Speakers
CONNECTING TO THE DORM WIRED NETWORK:
Most gaming systems and some other types of devices (eg: AppleTV's) will automatically connect and get online when plugged in on the wired network in your dorm room. If you have a device that doesn't, please send an email to: helpdesk@hesston.edu and be sure to include all your information, including your MAC Address and room number. See this page for instructions on how to obtain your device’s MAC address.
